His adoptive father was a cold, cruel man who demanded perfection, using his prodigious amounts of wealth to keep the orphanage in his pockets. Children were regularly tested physically, mentally, and emotionally, and many a child left the orphanage with deep scars from the ordeal. But Arcturus survived. Always a lonesome child, mocked for his odd appearance and mannerisms, Arcturus developed his own survivalist instinct. He refused to let what others say get to him, and most importantly refused to hear the word "no." He struggled against all naysayers, desperate to get out of the orphanage and into a new home. He hated the other kids, hated the poorly-made meals, hated everything about the place. And if he needed to do whatever it took to escape, he would. Only 7 at the time, Arcturus still did his best, and by some miracle he proved to be exactly what the man wanted. Adopted by Sirius Tulius and his wife Merope Tulius in 1987, Arcturus soon found life in his new household wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. His father showered him with attention, but all the wrong reasons. Arcturus was constantly groomed to be a perfect heir, always subject to his father's guiding hand in all walks of life. Sirius, a powerful businessman, wanted his son to have the best of everything and give only the best in return. One example was schooling: Arcturus was sent to the most prodigious school in his state. However, while usually a straight-A student, group projects went differently. His father told him to be ruthless and controlling, and to accept no change to his perfect work. For the most part Arcturus followed this religiously, but when working with a childhood bully his tune changed. All it took was a single hint to the teacher that his "friend" wasn't doing any work: Arcturus walked off with a teacher, the bully flunked the project. Victory. At home, when not studying or working his ass of Arcturus enjoyed lounging around and watching Transformers. In particular he always had a love-hate relationship the character of Starscream: somebody so bold and daring to constantly challenge a dictator for leadership, yet so weak and incompetent that he could never succeed. However, his perseverance was impressive, and Arcturus began to base more and more of his worldview around this ideal. At the age of 18, Arcturus had much practice in the field of scheming. He had wormed his way to the top in his part-time job, high school career, and even a sizable future position in his father's business. However, his father began to suspect his ambition. He needed an heir, easily-controlled and pliant. Not a potential thread that could one day topple him. The two were constantly engaged in a series of mental battles, each trying to undermine the other without being suspected and caught. However, Arcturus was more than out of his league. A master manipulator in the business thirty years longer than Arcturus was, Sirius easily outclassed his son. He quickly found himself locked out of his will, banished from the house, and bereft of all stock in his father's company. Humiliated and outraged, Arcturus fled while he still had a chance. In a way, he was thankful for being let off like this. His father had . . . ways of disposing of competition. He constantly has ambitious subordinates shuffled into harmless positions so that they can't oust him. Meeting one whose knowledge and wit can match his is one of his biggest fears. He also fears his father, the one man to ever catch on to his plotting. Other fears include his intelligence being underutilized and laws letting morality get in the way of progress.
